Soweto giants have been boosted by the return of former club captain Khune ahead of crucial clash with Moroccan giants
The Kaizer Chiefs will be deprived of their influential playmaker Lebogang Manyama when they face Wydad Casablanca in the Caf Champions League clash on Saturday.
The Soweto giants have announced a 21-man squad, who will travel to Morocco for their semi-final first leg against Wydad which will take place at the Mohamed V stadium in Casablanca.
Quadruple PSL champions have released the following statement indicating that Manyama has joined fellow strikers Khama Billiat and Dumisani Zuma on the squad’s injured list:
“However, they will have to do without Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Lebogang Manyama who join the injured list which already includes Khama Billiat and Dumisani Zuma,” said a statement from the club.
Manyama was instrumental in helping the Chiefs reach the top-eight in PSL during the recent 2020/21 season as he scored an impressive hat-trick in a 3-2 win over the Golden Arrows from Lamontville on June 2.
However, Amakhosi was bolstered by the availability of experienced goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who was included in the 21-man roving squad.
The 33-year-old has been out of the squad’s squads since April 28 as the Chiefs succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Chippa United and he has now been called back to the squad by co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard.
“Co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard were able to call on the Chiefs’ experienced and younger players for the Morocco game, with that in mind they opted to take three goalies with them by calling on Bruce Bvuma, Itumeleng Khune and Daniel Akpeyi, “read another statement.
The Chiefs will depart on a special charter flight Wednesday night with the return meeting set to be played at FNB Stadium on June 26.
