Earlier this month, we heard a pretty interesting rumor. A report of Car and driver claimed that General Motors planned to establish the Escalade and Camaro as standalone sub-brands with their own models. The Escalade is rumored to get a smaller three-row crossover and a minivan, complementing the existing Escalade luxury SUV. Fueled by this interesting rumour, our colleagues from Kolesa.ru created this exclusive render showing what an Escalade-branded minivan might look like.
This very early, speculative look at the Escalade minivan doesn’t look bad, to be honest. The Escalade’s front fascia with a massive grille seems to fit well into the overall boxy design of modern minivans. Even more so if you consider the new generation of luxury minivans for the Chinese market from local and global automakers – like the Zeekr 009 and the Trumpchi M8, for example. (see related links below).
Speaking of the People’s Republic’s growing minivan segment, it’s believed that if Escalade develops into a standalone sub-brand, its large family product will be designed and built specifically for the Chinese market. There, brands like Buick and Lexus currently offer luxury minivans and there is also strong competition from national brands.
Unfortunately, information is scarce at the moment and we can only make assumptions about the Escalade van. A very plausible scenario, however, seems to be a rebadged version of the recently launched Buick GL8 Century, which is a large minivan with Maybach levels of legroom, features like Bose speakers built into the headrests and sliding rear doors. In theory, its Escalade-branded sibling could be launched as a slightly more affordable and sportier offering to complement the GL8’s portfolio in China.
Back to last week’s report, Car and driver also claimed that Escalade may launch another additional model alongside the minivan and three-row SUV. According to available information, it could be a sedan or a raised wagon, the idea of which could be similar to that of the new Toyota Crown.
