The Cabrillo College women’s basketball team had three players named to the Coast Conference All-South team.
Second-year guards Michaela Thornton, a former student of Soquel, and Savanah Quintana-Martin, a former student of Watsonville, were named to the first team.
Thornton averaged 13.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Quintana-Martin averaged 12.6 points. 5.6 assists and 5.4 rebounds.
Second-year goalkeeper Kenedi Walters, a former Scotts Valley student who averaged 10.7 points and 4.1 rebounds, was named an honorable mention.
The Seahawks (14-12, 9-3) finished second behind De Anza (18-11, 10-2).
Men’s basketball
All conferences: Cabrillo had three players named to the All-South Conference Division team on the coast, including first two members: second-year guard Gabe Mack and second-year forward Hunter Seymour.
Mack averaged 14.3 points, 4.6 assists and had 39% of the shots over the arc (73 of 187). Seymour averaged 11.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
Rashaun Wooden, a former student of Aptos High, was named to the second team with Cabrillo’s first year goalkeeper Jonel Aponte, averaging 12.5 points.
Seahawks first-year guard / forward Alphonse Alfred, with an average of 9.1 points, was named an honorable mention.
The Seahawks (16-12, 8-4) shared the division title with West Valley (17-11, 8-4).
West Valley first-year goalkeeper Ben Baker has been named MVP.
Operation
Santa Cruz Half Marathon: Ryan Lok of Oakland (1:11:31) won the Santa Cruz Half Marathon on Sunday, Rafal Matuszczak of San Francisco (1:12:22) and Julian Sunn of Santa Cruz (1:12:50) finished third. Jen Vucinich of Palo Alto (1:23:53) was the best woman and was followed by Becky Lavelle of Aptos (1:25:42) and Megan Rebholtz of Boise (1:28:24).
Nick Sigmon of San Leandro (31:43) won the 10 km race from Santa Cruz, Kyle Brocklehurst of San Francisco (35:46) finished second and Jeff Soares of Aptos (36:52) third. Sophia Kellogg (38:18) was the best female and followed by Hannah Thackery from Santa Cruz (39:03) and Lila Torzec (43:40).
Matthew Devillers of Seaside (16:05) won the 5 km race, Katherine Irgens of Seaside (18:49) finished second and Erin Ballard of Los Angeles (19:04) third. Denny Dong (19:14) finished fourth and Aidan Cinque (19:37) finished fifth. Annie Stratton of Chico (20:20) was the third fastest woman.
University Softball
Cabrillo 8, at Taft 6: Outfielder Lauren Lahood was batting 4-for-4 with a triple, RBI, two goals stolen and three runs scored in the Seahawks’ victory on Sunday.
Andrea Duran had a double hit in his four hits and had four RBIs and one point. Alexis Navarro had two hits, one runs and one runs, and Izabell Saldana had two hits and one runs.
Julia Cano-Mendoza threw 4 1/3 innings for the victory and Navarro obtained the rescue.
Men’s golf
Hole in one: Dave Mills of Santa Cruz completed the 18th hole of 148 yards at Pasatiempo Golf Club with an iron on Friday. It’s his seventh career ace.
