BYU Basketball released its non-conference schedule for the coming season. Games against San Diego State, Oregon, Utah, Creighton and the Diamond Head Classic highlight the non-conference list.
BYU opens the season with an exhibition game against Colorado Christian before hosting Cleveland State in the season opener on Tuesday, November 9. The Vikings made the tournament as a 15-seeded last year. BYU’s second game will be a good test against former MWC foe San Diego State at the Marriott Center.
Probably the toughest game on the non-conference calendar will be Oregon’s at the Moda Center in Portland on November 16 as part of the Phil Knight Inviational. The Ducks are a potential top 10 team and will provide an early-season test for BYU from the get-go.
Other quad one opportunities could be in Utah, Missouri State and against Creighton in South Dakota. Potential games against Vanderbilt and Stanford in the Diamond Head Classic would also be good tests. Missouri State is a good sneaky game. They’re probably the best team in the Missouri Valley Conference and should be in the Net’s Top 75, which would make them a four-way game.
Quad One matches are considered home matches against the top 30 teams, neutral matches against the top 50 teams, and road matches against the top 75 teams.
My guess for quad one games is Oregon, Utah, State of Missouri, Creighton, and maybe SDSU. Quad two games could be Utah State, UVU, Weber State, and at least two games in the Diamond Head Classic.
November 27 will be a big day as BYU will host Utah in basketball and play USC in soccer.
BYU hits the road for games in the state against UVU and Weber State and they will host Utah State and Westminster.
Overall, BYU faces six teams that have participated in the NCAA tournament: Cleveland State, Texas Southern, SDSU, Utah State, Oregon and Creighton.
