Watch this cool demo from Sony Cine, to learn how to mount (or dismount) the VENICE Rialto unit, in order to shoot handheld with the Sony VENICE. This educational video shows the process of detaching the sensor and building a more comfortable backpack-style system for dynamic shots.
The Sony Rialto Camera Extension System allows you to remove the sensor block and extend it up to 12 meters from the camera body without loss of image quality. This allows you to acquire images remotely with the same image quality and functionality as VENICE. The device was used many covers and variations —Conventional shooting scenarios like using a stabilizer, shooting from a helicopter or setting it up in a tight space, to specialized rigging (Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar sequels). The ability to detach the sensor from the heavy body can come in very handy in many shooting situations. So Sony Cine released a neat video showing how to put together a more compact form of the VENICE and create a Rialto backpack system.
Here are the components used to build the VENICE Rialto Backpack System:
- Small rosette spacer
- Wooden Rod Holder for Universala Rosette Camera
- Rialto top plate
- Rialto Unified Wooden Camera Base Plate
- Rialto D-Box wooden camera
- Y-Cable D-Box
- Teradek RT CTRL 3 Kit
- Rialto
- VENICE Original
- VENICE power strip
- Small HD Cine 7
- The lens used is a compact Zeiss 70-200 mm zoom
For the backpack system, they most likely used the ORCA Rigalto with Easyrig Minimax, which allows you to carry the Sony VENICE camera on your back, so you can easily use the Rialto expander handheld attached. The design consists of a large mounting plate attached to adjustable padded backpack straps. Check out this demo featuring Katie Eleneke from Sony’s Digital Media Production Center:
