Paris, October 20, 2022 (AFP) – Millie Bright scored the only goal in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday in a group stage clash between two Champions League title contenders .
The England defender volleyed Erin Cuthbert’s cross in the 27th minute at the Stade Jean Bouin to secure Chelsea all three points in their first Group A encounter.
Chelsea were without coach Emma Hayes for the trip to Paris. She is recovering from an emergency hysterectomy as part of her “ongoing battle with endometriosis”.
The English champions finished second in Europe in 2021, while PSG reached the Champions League semi-finals last season. The French club lost the final in 2015 and 2017.
Real Madrid beat group stage debutants Vllaznia of Albania 2-0 in the section’s other game.
