Adam Catterall raged it will be a “mayhem” if Chris Eubank Jr’s fight with Conor Benn on Saturday continues despite the latter’s failed drug test.
It was revealed on Wednesday that Benn gave an abnormal result for clomiphene in August, before taking a UK doping test.
The banned substance can increase testosterone in men, while it is primarily used to treat fertility in women.
Much to the shock of many – including Frank Warren – the next-gen fight has yet to be canceled as it stands, despite the British Board of Control’s house dust ban.
The pair are still set to come face to face at a press conference on Thursday with promoters Eddie Hearn and Kalle Sauerland reluctant to withdraw the contest.
And talkSPORT commentator Catterall expressed outrage that the match is still on as he compared the situation to the ‘Wild West’.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast Catterall said: “We signed up for testing. This test reported an abnormal result.
“Why do we not know what was found in this test? Because that’s exactly what we’re doing right now. We don’t know.
“We decided, ‘Well, wait a minute, that doesn’t fit our narrative well right now, that doesn’t work for us, so we’re actually going to use those rules here.’
“Nah man, come on, let’s get real! The guy had something in his system, let’s get this straightened out first. Let’s get to the bottom of this before we continue the fight.
“What if something serious happened on the weekend? Boxing is dragged through the mud, and it’s not just an Eddie Hearn show or a Matchroom show.
“It’s all boxing that’s been dragged through the mud. The general public will absolutely deny the sport.
“Sponsorships will go away, all of these fighters will be paid decently to compete for those championship belts on a Saturday night.
“It won’t be a thing anymore because they will run for the hills. Why would you want to be involved in the Wild West?
” There are no rules ! It will be an absolute shambles if this fight continues this weekend.
Simon Jordan also weighed in on the matter as the talkSPORT pundit said if the fight goes ahead it will bring the sport of boxing into disrepute.
And former world champion Carl Frampton thinks Benn should be banned for life after failing a random doping test.
