Borussia Dortmund demand apology for Jadon Sancho but Manchester United fans think they played a blinder

Borussia Dortmund demanded an apology after Jadon Sancho’s performance against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

The Manchester United loanee, who was banned from the Red Devils’ first team by Erik ten Hag, delivered a sensational performance as the German giants won the first leg of the Champions League semi-final 1-0 .

An electric Sancho completed 12 dribbles, the most by any player in a Champions League semi-final since Lionel Messi in 2008.

Reacting to the England international’s exploits, Dortmund tweeted: “You all owe him an apology, we STILL knew his game.”

The England international seemed completely reborn after a rotten two-and-a-half year spell at Old Trafford.

Sancho was heavily criticized for his form at United following a £73 million move from Dortmund, before a public falling out with manager Ten Hag following a defeat to Arsenal in September 2023.

After months in exile for refusing to apologise, the 24-year-old was sent back to the Bundesliga club on loan in January.

His return to form coincided with another disappointing season for Ten Hag at United.

But rather than wishing Sancho would perform at that level for the Red Devils, some supporters saw a positive side to his recent renaissance in Germany.

Fans believe the Englishman is either boosting his transfer value ahead of a summer exit or regaining his confidence before returning to Old Trafford.

One wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Man United fans wishing Sancho would fail is like wishing your car failed a safety test before putting it the market for sale. Its success increases its value and attracts other buyers than Dortmund.

Another said: “Sancho played well in every way again, it just shows that the United shirt carries a lot of weight for many. Hope this increases his value before moving him.”

Mark Goldbridge calls Jadon Sancho a failure at Manchester United, suggesting he ‘completely and utterly failed’ in the Premier League

A third argument: “This means either we will have a rejuvenated player returning to the team, or better value for him on the transfer market…”
