The two actors spoke to Hello america Friday, the day of release from Next Borat movie. Baron Cohen reprise his role as Borat Sagdiyev in the film, while Bakalova stars as Borat’s daughter, Tutar.
Anchor Amy Robach interviewed the duo about a scene in which Mr. Giuliani, Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, is seen putting a hand on his pants.
The edited footage appears after Mr. Giuliani participated in what is presented to him as an interview with Bakalova / Tutar. Bakalova, still in her character, is heard suggesting to go “have a drink in the room”. “You can give me your phone number and address,” Mr. Giuliani said. He pats the actor on the waist, after which she appears to help him remove his audio equipment. “Should we slip your jacket on?” she heard someone ask, to which Mr. Giuliani apparently replies: “OK”.
Mr. Giuliani, who is sitting on the edge of a bed, is then seen lying on his back and appears to put his hand on his belt. He denounced the footage as “a complete fabrication” and said he “tucked my shirt in after removing the recording material”.
Baron Cohen addressed the sequence on GMA Friday, stating: “I would say if the president’s lawyer found what he did there to be appropriate behavior, then God knows what he did with other women journalists in hotel rooms .
“I urge everyone to watch the film. It is what it is. He did what he did. Make up your own mind. It was pretty clear to us.
The comedian, who is also one of the film’s producers, said he was monitoring the scene as it unfolded from a “refuge” that he and his crew had built.
“I was pretty worried about her during the scene,” he said, adding, “It’s also my responsibility as a producer to make sure the lead actor is taken care of.”
When asked if she felt safe during the scene, Bakalova said that was not the case and that she still felt safe thanks to the crew and the crew.
In a series of tweets about the footage, Mr Giuliani wrote in part: “At no point before, during or after the interview have I ever been inappropriate. If Sacha Baron Cohen implies otherwise, he is a pitiless liar.
Next Borat movie is now available on Amazon Prime. The original, released in 2006, grossed $ 262 million at the global box office and was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.
