Bonzie Colson is the Basketball Champions League MVP for the 2020-21 season, the BCL announced on Friday.
Colson, 25, is averaging 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists per BCL appearance this season. His accomplishments throughout the MVP campaign include many key buckets to lift SIG Strasbourg. His side are still in the title race and will collide with Hereda San Pablo Burgos later today in the 8th Basketball Champions League Final to be held in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
According to the press release: “Bonzie Colson, the SIG Strasbourg player, has been awarded the title of MVP of the 2020-21 season of the Basketball Champions League.
The 25-year-old American, born in Washington DC, has had an exceptional season with SIG Strasbourg. He has averaged 18.2 points per game in the BCL this season, more than any other player.
Bonzie Colson, who will face Hereda San Pablo Burgos in the semi-finals, has scored 218 points this season in BCL, only two players have had a better point total with Strasbourg in a BCL season (Gabe York & David Logan); however, his average of 18.2 points per game is currently the best for a Strasbourg player in a BCL season.
Colson, who along with Raymar Morgan is one of two players with 18+ points and 6+ rebounds on average per game this season in BCL, was selected from the January Team of the Month and the All-BCL Play- Offs this season in competition.
Before signing for SIG Strasbourg in August 2020, Colson, who played college basketball for the University of Notre Dame, started his professional career with the Canton Charge and then the Milwaukee Bucks, before joining Darussafaka Tekfen for the 2019 season. 20.
The award will be presented ahead of the second semi-final of Final 8 which will see SIG Strasbourg take on defending BCL champions Hereda San Pablo Burgos for a place in the 2020-21 Basketball Champions League final. “
