BMW X3 M Comp Drag Races Jeep Trackhawk, AMG GLC 63 in Grand SUV Battle

Consumers flocked to crossovers and SUVs, and automakers followed. However, the move towards family vehicles has not lessened the need for performance vehicles. Companies have adapted and high-powered SUVs are now plentiful. A new YouTube video from Sam CarLegion has brought three of them together for a series of drag races to see which powerful SUV reigns supreme.

The BMW X3 M Competition has the smallest engine, putting out 503 horsepower (375 kilowatts) and 442 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of torque thanks to its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. An eight-speed automatic transmission routes power to the SUV’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. It weighs 4,549 pounds (2,084 kilograms).

The Jeep is powered by the brand’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine. It produces 707 hp (527 kW) and 645 lb-ft (874 Nm) of torque. This is the same engine found in Dodge’s Hellcat models. Power flows through an eight-speed gearbox to the all-wheel-drive system. The SUV is the heaviest of the three at 5,364 lb (2,422 kW).

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S Coupé also comes with a V8 engine, but it’s a smaller 4.0-liter unit that develops 503 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. It has a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, weighing 4,590 pounds (2,081 kW).

The Mercedes skipped the line in the first race, securing a sizable lead that the other two couldn’t close. He crossed the finish line first, but the Jeep won in the end. The BMW placed third. Race two was much tighter, with the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and Mercedes leaving the start line simultaneously, giving the Jeep the opportunity to edge out the GLC to finish first. The BMW again took third place.

The two rolling races are where the Jeep struggled. In both cases, he failed to keep up with the other two. The Mercedes moved away from the group, taking two more victories, with the BMW taking second place. The Jeep might have a lot more horsepower than the other two, but it’s also heavier, which hurts its performance capability in the end.
