Do the Black Friday sales? Start now.
Some of the nation’s largest retailers, including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and Kohl’s, have already started sales and others will begin before Black Friday proper.
And with the exception of Walmart, most deals are available in stores and online, while supplies last. Walmart’s sale began online Monday, and stores will open at 5 a.m. on Friday with most of the same items on sale.
But the hard-to-find Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, which quickly sold out on Walmart’s online sale, won’t be available in stores as they were online-only offers.
For the second year, most major retailers will close their stores on Thanksgiving. (See the list, including stores also open here.)

For years, Thanksgiving and Black Friday have officially kicked off the holiday shopping season and the time of year when shoppers focus on holiday spending.
This rush to spend gave Black Friday its name, like the time of the year when retailers were “in the dark”. For nearly a decade, this official kickoff has been drawing ever closer to Thanksgiving, eating into the time people were spending around the holiday table.
But the second pandemic holiday shopping season continues to be different from previous years.
This year, buyers should expect a triple whammy with fewer offers, more out-of-stock items and shipping delays due to continued supply chain bottlenecks.
According to a report by Coresight Research, more shoppers are expected to show up in stores than last Black Friday, which was “the quietest in 20 years,” as actual foot traffic plummeted amid fears of a pandemic, according to a report by Coresight Research.
Online shopping is expected to continue to grow. The National Retail Federation, the nation’s largest retail group, expects higher holiday sales to break last year’s record season, even with higher prices expected.
