Billy Joe Saunders hilariously trolled Chris Eubank Jr after his talkSPORT interview, claiming he would bet £ 10,000 on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to knock him out.
The WBO super middleweight champion hopes to add Canelo’s WBC and WBA bracelets to his collection when they meet on May 8 after years of verbal exchanges.
Eubank also has a personal grudge against compatriot Saunders, which stems from 2014 when they shared the ring in a searing British middleweight title contest.
Speaking to talkSPORT last week, Eubank Jr admitted he would bet big on the Mexican star pound for pound to stop Saunders, but the undefeated fighter fought back in a typically witty fashion.
He told Behind The Gloves, “At the end of the day what he should have done was put the ten thousand on himself to beat me if he was so confident.
“He didn’t, because I beat him. He’s one of them, look he’s desperate isn’t he? It is really irrelevant to me.
“The closest to a fight like this is going out and buying a ticket. Sit at ringside if you really want to.
“Go spend your ten thousand, he’s probably going to have about ten thousand to box Marcus Morrison, whatever his name.”
“So spend that money on a ringside ticket, but that’s the closest thing to an Alvarez fight.”
Eubank Jr has always wanted an illustrious name like Canelo on his resume, but returns to the ring on May 1 to face Morrison.
Although he insisted he beat the decorated world champion at five weights during his talkSPORT interview, Saunders offered a much darker career prediction for the 31-year-old.
He added, “He’s just not good enough. He is 31 years old now and he is not a world champion.
“I said it; he will never be world champion, ever. He doesn’t have the boxing brains, the advice in himself to be world champion.
“He’s so irrelevant it’s a joke.”
