Chelsea beat Everton 4-0 on Sunday to extend their lead over their rivals, also chasing a place in the top four.

After Wolves and Tottenham both lost points on Saturday, the Blues made a full demonstration with Mason Mount, Pedro, Willian and Olivier Giroud all on the scoresheet.

Chelsea missed comfortable winners at Stamford Bridge

Midfielder Billy Gilmour provided the contact again, the 18-year-old having more than confirmed his star performance in Tuesday’s 2-0 FA Cup victory against Liverpool.

He was the catalyst for Chelsea’s first two goals in his Premier League debut with calm and class.

The Blues did not have seven regulars for the first team, but Gilmour said Chelsea did not miss a beat, despite the absence of international midfielders N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho.

Chelsea’s board of directors must purr positively that Gilmour signed a new four-year contract in September. According to this week’s evidence, the former young Ranger player can already keep the same company as some of the best midfield dynamos.

Mount marked the opener

Ancelotti led Chelsea to their first national double in 2010 and received a warm welcome upon their return to West London. If the Italian appreciated this welcome, he must have hated everything else to follow.

Mount’s acrobatic half-volley forced Jordan Pickford to an early reaction stop, while Chelsea dominated from the start.

The Blues didn’t have to wait to break the deadlock either, with Mount ending his three-month drought goal in style.

The first pass from Gilmour to Mount turned Everton’s midfielder on his heels, and the Toffees never recovered.

Pedro doubled the lead

Pedro doubled the lead

Mount fed Pedro outside and the Spaniard cut the left and sent the ball inside so the Portsmouth-born midfielder controlled the U-turn and then came home.

Seven minutes later, Chelsea doubled their lead, with Gilmour once again at the center of the action.

He put Giroud on his feet, the French fired Ross Barkley and the former midfielder of Everton spun Pedro to goal.

The Spanish striker roughly broke the offside trap, stabilized, and then passed a defenseless Pickford.

Although assists and arrivals may have ended elsewhere, Gilmour has always been the man who made Chelsea move forward.

Chelsea’s dominance spread to the point where Everton’s only chance in the first half came from a mistake.

Marcos Alonso’s loose pass let Richarlison cut, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin spoiled his attempt for a cute finish, rubbing himself wide when he wanted to get into Kepa Arrizabalaga.

An afternoon of extreme comfort at Chelsea was quickly sealed after the interval, when Willian knocked sharply in the corner less than 20 yards away.

In no time, Giroud hit Willian’s corner with precious resistance, and the fourth goal proved the final straw for dozens of visiting supporters.

It was a desperately early retreat in Merseyside, with more than half an hour to play.

Chelsea could have cared less, however, with the Blues able to clinch a comfortable victory that further cemented their grip on fourth place.
