Billie Eilish Takes a Strong Stance on Fragrance Layering Debate – Teen Vogue

If you’re a super fan of Billie Eilish or land on her Instagram often, then you know the 20-year-old is a true fragrance lover. After her first launch in the beauty field with Eilish, the singer is about to release the latest installation from her namesake collection.

Unlike the initial Eilish scent, Eilish No.2 carries a more mature, earthy scent perfect for all-day wear. Billie says she was inspired to explore other facets of her love of perfume with her next creation, a sensual woody floral.

Eilish No.2 introduces a sweet aroma that opens with accents of Italian bergamot and apple blossom. We caught up with Billie herself to talk all things Eilish No.2, fragrance layering, and her future beauty plans.

teen vogue: This will now be your second fragrance to be released in the collection. And so for you, what was your reflection when exploring this second perfume? How did you want it to differ from the first one that came out?

Billie Eilish: Well, I wanted it to feel similar, but very different. For example, I wanted it to feel completely separate, but if someone said, “Oh, by the way, this is Eilish’s second scent” someone might be like, “Oh yeah, I see that.” You know? I didn’t want it to be like, “Oh, that smells like Eilish,” but I wanted it to be like, “Oh, okay, I get it. I get where that’s coming from.

I wanted it to be just the more masculine kind of spicier, darker, less comfortable scent. It was really inspired by rain and water and the kind of world like dark and wet feelings.

It was a big thing. I wanted it to be spicy and feel quite neutral and flowy. I just wanted it to feel really, kind of the opposite of how Eilish feels, where Eilish is very soft and vanilla and cozy and makes you feel really warm, like you’re sitting by a fireplace while you train to cuddle you. And I wanted Eilish No.2 to be like, you’re like having the most passionate kiss in the rain ever, you know?

TV: This is very controversial among my friends as to whether they believe in it or not. But what do you think of layer the flavors?

BE: Man, I love layering scents. I think that’s such an important thing to be able to do. It’s also fun to layer any type of perfume – not just perfume – but you put on a lotion that smells like that, you put on a perfume that smells like that, you put on some kind of oil that smells like that . And so many people don’t even do it.

I remember like the first time I did it, I did it by accident, and then I was like, “Oh, shit. This kind of thing did something. I like doing it. I think it’s really fun. And I think you can use a scent that you like on your own, and then one day you want to smell like that, but also smell a little more masculine or a little more feminine.
