When: March, 31st
Or: Rogers Arena
Amazing what a difference a few years can make in the life of a pop star.
Last time out, Billie Eilish played a sold-out show at the PNE Amphitheater to an adoring audience of mostly teenagers, parents and a handful of tastemakers and onlookers in the back rows. It was perfectly clear that she was the real deal. Everyone knew that was the last time she would be caught in a room this size. All the right bits were in play – great songs, polished staging, and a deep connection with the fans.
Last night, the scene set up would not have its place in this previous room.
At Rogers Arena, it was a non-stop outing for fans who felt like it was their show. Such is Eilish’s connection to her audience, that she is revered, but also seemingly down to earth. It’s a rare quality for a multiple Grammy nominee whose second album might even be better than her breakout debut, who writes the themes of Bond films and the awkwardness of boy bands in great animated films like Turning Red. Live on stage, she has two rules: Don’t judge anyone and have fun.

Easy enough.
Here are five highlights from the show.
1 – Bury a friend: An ideal way to start the evening off right. With its serpentine, lyrical and ominous mood, it drew the crowd in from the opening notes and they couldn’t move.
2 – You should see me in a crown: The drop was big enough without causing the crowd to “lose their shit”. But add them to the mix and this creepy, haunting conversation was epic. Giant spider crawling projection also very cool on stage-wide background screen.
3 – I love you: This tender ballad performed in duet with her collaborator brother Finneas not only allowed everyone to catch their breath, but also to prove how good a singer she is. Somewhere down the years, an unplugged album from Billie will be a career highlight. Plus, the segway in Your Power was as perfect as the roadie handing Billie a second guitar. When she stressed how important it was to protect young girls, there was unqualified approval.

4 – Stomach aches: From her vantage point above the arena floor in a rotating gondola, she had everyone wave as their hips swayed to the catchy country groove at the start of the song, only to make them wistful by the end. music.
5 – All good girls go to hell: While the images of humanity’s blatant disregard for the only house we’ve played on screen and The California wildfires licked the scene, she was both a harbinger of fate and the cynical voice of a generation that didn’t matter enough to her parents to try to save the planet whose they inherit. Powerful stuff. And you could also dance to it.
As the concert drew to a close, one had to wonder what was to come next from the dynamic duo of Billie and Finneas.
