Billie Eilish Finally Makes Explicitly Queer Music With Her New Song – INTO

After years of unfounded accusations of “queerbaiting” and an unofficial exit from the red carpet, Billie Eilish is finally putting her queer side into her music.

It’s been a week since Eilish announced her upcoming third album, Hit me hard and soft. At the time, she said she wouldn’t release any singles before the album’s release, so fans expected to be blindsided when it released on May 17. But after making a surprise appearance at Coachella to perform in Lana Del Rey’s track together, she previewed a clip of a new track from the album. It’s called “Lunch” and it is indeed about eating.

In what sounds like the chorus, Eilish sings about eating a girl for lunch: “I could eat that girl for lunch / Yeah, she’s dancing on my tongue / Looks like she could be the one / And I don’t can never have enough / I could buy him so much stuff / It’s a want, not a crush.

This is arguably the raunchiest Eilish lyrics have ever been, and by far the gayest. Unlike much of her previous music, the gender of the person she sings about isn’t up for debate: Eilish has trouble liking a girl, and it’s beyond a crush.

In another section of the clip, Eilish even gives the name of the girl in question: “Call me when you’re here / I said, ‘I brought you something rare’ / And I left under ‘Claire’ / So now she comes I go up the stairs / So I pull up a chair / And I put my hair up.

Fans have theories about who “Claire” could be. It could, of course, be a made-up name – but it could also be pop star Clairo (aka Claire Cottrill), who was spotted having dinner with Eilish earlier this month. Could they be planning a collaboration? Are you just hanging out as friends? Or maybe even spark a romance?

Watching “Lunch” wasn’t even the gayest thing Eilish did at Coachella. Videos of Eilish at the festival show her dancing and crushing other girls. She even kissed influencer Quen Blackwell, and the way Eilish grabbed her face made her sapphic fans swoon.

The era of gay Billie is upon us and we hope it never ends. Hit me hard and soft comes out May 17.
