Billie Eilish Explains the Meaning of the Name “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” – Audacy

Singer Billie Eilish gave fans a glimpse into the meaning behind the juxtaposing title of his upcoming album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFTrevealing that she thought the idea was “a really good way to describe myself, and I love that it’s not possible.”

In a new rolling stone cover interview, singer Billie Eilish is joined on set with photographer William Drummcurrently creating the cover for his third studio album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFTscheduled for release on May 17. Fully dressed, weighted and submerged underwater, “I’m basically waterboarding for six hours,” she explains, but perfectly happy to do it.

“If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I’m going to go through hell and come back for the shot,” she reveals. “I have always been like that and I will continue to be like that. Many of my works are physically painful in many ways, and I love that. Oh, my God, I live for this.

The title of the album HIT ME HARD AND SOFTsaid Billie, initially arrived during a writing session with her brother and collaborator ENDED, and explains during the extensive interview how she initially mistook that phrase for the name of a Logic Pro synthesizer sound. This notion, she thought, “was such a perfect encapsulation of what this album does. “It’s an impossible request: you can’t be hit hard and soft,” she remarks. “You can’t do anything hard and soft at the same time.”

“I’m a pretty extreme person and I really like when things are really physically intense,” adds Eilish, “but I also like when things are very tender and gentle. I want two things at once. I have so thought that was a really good way to describe myself, and I love that it’s not possible.

“I feel like this album is me,” she says, about getting back in touch with her darker side. “He’s not a character. It sounds like “When we all fall asleep, where do we go?” » version of me. It sounds like my youth and who I was as a child.

FINNEAS adds: “I feel like this album has some real ghosts in it, and I say that with love. There are ideas on this album that are five years old, and there’s a past that I really like. When Billie talks about the days of “When We All Fall Asleep,” it was this theatricality and darkness. What’s the one thing that no one is as good at as Billie? This album was an exploration of what we do best.
