Billie Eilish was made for this. The Costume Designer Guild will present its first Vanguard Spotlight Award to the Academy Award winner and current nominee at its 26th CDGA Gala this month.
This new honor honors a pioneer who sets new standards in his field, not only for his exceptional achievements, but also for his courage as a visionary who inspires us all, according to the guild.
The “Why was I made?” singer-songwriter, who won the Academy Award for Best Song for the title song of No Time to Die two years ago, will be celebrated at the guild’s 2024 awards on February 21 at NeueHouse Hollywood.
Throughout her young career, Eilish, 22, has consistently used her platform in the touring, music video and event industry to highlight and celebrate innovative designers who continue to push the boundaries of fashion, a noted the CDG. From encouraging major fashion houses to ditch fur to wearing recycled and sustainable designs for a better world, Eilish has always prioritized ethics and incorporated her beliefs into her looks, all by remaining true to herself and never compromising her image.
Eilish is coming off a Grammy win for Song of the Year for “What Was I Made For?” from the hit movie Barbie, an award she shared with her brother Finneas O’Connell. They performed the track, which reached number one in the UK and topped the US Rock & Alternative Songs chart, during the show. It was his seventh career statuette and his eighth.

The track is also up for best song at next month’s Oscars and won the Golden Globe Award last month.
Eilish’s two albums — When we fall asleep, where do we go? (2019) and Happier than ever (2021) – top two charts in the US, UK and worldwide. She has also had four Top 10 singles in the United States, with “Bad Guy” reaching number one in 2019.
The 1,200-member Costume Designers Guild, IATSE Local 892, will name a host and other honorees for its 26th CDGA ceremony in the coming days.
