Movement
First, let’s break down what the doll type can do. On the joint side, we have 360 degree shoulder and head rotation, elbow joints, and the hands rest on a ball joint. On the lower half there is a waist pivot, knee joints, and like the hands, the ankles also feature a ball joint.
To say it’s a good joint would be an understatement. Everything that should move does, and in a way that feels natural. If you’re looking to display the doll on a shelf or something similar, there are a ton of different pose options.
Whether you want to recreate a scene from the Bad Guy music video or just create an Eilish T-pose, the articulation options are just great. Part of me expected fixed joints similar to what we see in cheaper Barbie dolls, but Playmates really went all out to create something kids will want to play with and pose with.
Clothing
To put it bluntly, I’m actually a little shocked at how good they are.
It’s the little things that make clothes shiny or awesome. Take this for example. When designing hoodies and cargo pants, it’s so easy for businesses to just hit flat shapes to create the illusion of pockets.
Not here, however. Playmates has fully functional pockets on the hoodie and cargo pants. You can actually put things in if you want. I know! Who saw this level of detail coming? Like I said, I’m amazed at how well thought out they are.
In full, Billie Eilish Bad Guy doll comes complete with cotton hoodie (and yes the hood works), cargo pants set with fabric bands incorporated into the design near the hem, and shoes made of plastic with slits on the back so they can be put on and taken off easily. The design work on the basis of the shoes is also great attention to detail.
Accessories

While Billie Eilish doll does not come with direct accessories, there is still a lot to play.
The first is the bright yellow stand with the Eilish hanging man motif on the base.
The flight stands are awesome and more toys should go with them. Not only is this one sturdy enough to hold the doll up in mid-pose, but it also features a height adjustment lever on the back.
The real peculiarity, for me at least, is the use of recyclable packaging that turns into a diorama.
The box unfolds without having to be torn or torn, leaving you free to fold it on itself to recreate a scene from the Bad Guy music video.
It’s ingenious and honestly, more companies need to start doing it. It’s ecological and leave something for the children to play with.
Face and hair
Putting the faces of famous people in a doll shape is like trying to juggle hot coal. Of course, it is possible. That’s not to say it’s easy, however.
It is much easier to translate the features of a fictional character on a doll than it is for a real person. That said, Playmates did a decent job of capturing Eilish’s likeness. It’s not perfect, because Eilish isn’t plastic, so of course it wasn’t going to be perfect. But when it comes to the right eye and face shape, it’s as close as it gets.
As for the hair, it is absolutely gorgeous. The teal films really stand out on the peacock blue. It’s light blue and dark blue and the color comes out beautifully. Likewise, the longer asymmetrical style is as cool as it gets.
One thing to note, the hair is a bit harsher than other dolls. I was able to brush the hairspray finish in some areas and it turns soft again, but I thought I would highlight it so you won’t be scared when you take it out of the box.
The idea behind the hair spray-like hardening is, I guess, to keep the style in place while the hood is pulled up. Whether you brush it or keep it indoors is up to you, however.
Global
Granted, the first time I heard Playmates was making a Billie Eilish Bad Guy doll, I didn’t know what to expect. Would it be a cheap cash-in or would it be something more varied?
In the end, Playmates really exceeded expectations, shattering all expectations. It’s not just the obvious things like the face and hair where this doll excels, it’s the little details like the work pockets, recyclable packaging, and the killer knuckle that make this thing a must-have gift.
What I really like is that we finally have a doll that is also suitable for teenagers and adults. When children reach a certain age, the dolls suddenly disappear. But what about the hip young adult who loves Billie Eilish and wants something to put next to her Blu-Ray collection? Finally, they have something to show off the things they love outside of Funko Pops.
So how does Billie Eilish Bad Guy doll stack up in a market dominated by LOL, Barbie, and Kindi Kids? The answer is simple: she sets herself apart by creating a super stylish and well-designed doll that is aimed at fans of all ages.
