Billie Eilish and a trio from Forum Nights: Three nights at the Forum for Eilish who, although still not at Harry Styles’ level, is still very impressive. His star continues to rise with last year’s happier than ever album again, still gather steam.
We chatted with Eilish a few years ago as she was preparing to perform at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas Show, and she said of her rise, “I think everything that’s happened since that I released ‘Ocean Eyes’ three years ago was crazy,” Eilish says. “I mean, I stopped expecting things. I don’t even know if it’s okay, I think it’s more like I never expected things like that to happen. I’ve never done it, since I was young. I don’t expect to get anything better than what I already have – I’ve never been that kind of person. A lot of people say: “I know I’m going to make it, I know I’m going to get it” and I’m just like, “No”. I’ve never been like this in my life. I just take what I have and I try to be happy with it, if not to work for something that I want more. I never say: “It will come”. Shit no, you have to work for this shit.
About her writing, she said, “I grew up the only way I can, and in all the ways I can,” she says. “It’s weird because I released ‘Ocean Eyes’ when I was 13. I feel like after I released something like that at 13, I’ve obviously changed since then because I am a human being, but a lot of people are like, ‘Oh no, she’s changing for fame.’ What is it No, I’m changing because I was 13 and now I’m 16 What do I do Stay exactly the same damn It’s just the kind of thing that I don’t understand. Besides, it’s not even a question of age. I feel like you should always change and you should always be ready to change. For me at least, I can’t breathe if I’m not constantly changing something I have a short circuit — I get bored too quickly so I have to do something new all the time.
Since then, of course, she’s released two awesome albums, including last year’s Happier than ever. Expect to hear a lot about it in the Forum.
