Saving the animals is all she wanted.
Billie Eilish pleaded for people to refrain from eating turkeys on Thanksgiving in a post shared on her Instagram Stories Wednesday.
“Turkeys are among the sweetest creatures in the world and 46 million of them are killed every Thanksgiving,” the 19-year-old vegan pop star and activist wrote in a photo of her holding a live turkey.
“I know it’s hard to change traditions, but keep that in mind :)”
Eilish has been following a vegan diet since the age of 12.
In May, she spoke to British Vogue about her decision to change her lifestyle after learning about the ethics of the meat and dairy industries.
“Once you know that stuff and see it, it’s really hard to go back,” Eilish said.
At the time, she said she “never wanted to tell anyone what to do,” noting that she had a lot of friends who ate meat.
However, the “Everything I Wanted” singer added, “I just can’t go on with my life knowing what’s going on in the animal world and, for example, not doing anything about it.”
In September, Eilish even ditched her own vegan sneakers with Nike. Both Air Jordan models are 100% vegan and made from over 20% recycled materials.
“You can do cool stuff and you don’t have to waste it,” she told Nike of her decision to make the shoes sustainable.
In addition to sharing her take on the food industry, the Grammy winner has spoken about a number of other topics she is passionate about at public events, concerts and on social media.
In October, Eilish spoke out against Texas abortion laws at a concert in Austin.
“When they made this s-ta law, I almost didn’t want to do the show, because I wanted to punish this f-king place for allowing it to happen here,” she explained. “But then I remembered you guys are the f-king victims, and you deserve everything in the world. And we have to tell them to shut up!”
