Bill Burr voiced his vocal support for Johnny Depp on the latest episode of his “Monday Morning Podcast” (via Mediaite). The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is currently in the midst of his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard, which began on April 11. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million after citing an abusive relationship in an op-ed written for The Washington Post.
“I’m too big of a Johnny Depp fan to watch. [the trial]. I love this guy and I – I don’t want to hear all these personal details and stuff,” Burr said. “From what I’ve seen, the guy is fucking destructive. And what’s great about it is if he really calls that woman out for lying. I wonder if all these people who, you know, just accepted his lies about him if they’re going to apologize somehow.
Burr noted that people had “publicly trashed” Depp and said, “It would be nice if they publicly apologized and said, ‘Maybe next time we won’t jump to conclusions.
“It really amazes me how the pendulum just doesn’t seem to swing the other way,” Burr added. “All these groups of women who see a woman lying like that, which really hurts their position, because there are women who are in a relationship in which this woman obviously lied and claimed that she was And for someone to come out and lie about it, it hurts the people who are actually in it! You’d think they’d cover it up.
Burr is one of the few celebrities to have supported Depp during the trial. Howard Stern went viral last month for criticizing Depp’s “overreaction” when the actor took the stand to testify against Heard. Drew Barrymore recently apologized after upsetting Depp fans for calling the trial “seven layers of madness”.
