Beyonce has paid tribute to French fashion designer Manfred Thierry Mugler after his death at the age of 73.
Mugler died on Sunday, January 23, a post announced on his official Instagram page.
It read: “We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23, 2022. May his soul rest in peace.”
Singer Beyonce paid tribute to Mugler, who designed the costumes for her 2009 I am… World Tour, on her official website, posting a black-and-white photo of the designer with the words “Rest In Peace” at the -above.
The designer, who launched his brand in the early 1970s, expanded his name beyond fashion and launched a successful line of perfumes in the 1990s.
He was known for his architectural designs, playing with shapes – he favored a cinched waist with broad shoulders – while always accentuating and showing the female form.
In 2019, he designed Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala outfit, a skin-tight latex dress that looked wet.
She is quoted as having told US Vogue at the event: “This is the first time in 20 years that Mr. Mugler has designed for the House of Mugler.
“So coming to design this dress for me is such an honor.
“It’s about eight months of preparation.
“He pictured this California girl coming out of the ocean, wet, dripping wet.”

Ross paid tribute on Twitter, writing: “I will miss you Thierry Mugler, it was a wonderful time in our lives.”
Model Georgia May Jagger was among those who left tributes on the Instagram post announcing her death, writing: ‘Can’t believe this is true, sending love to you all. Thierry was a force of creativity and kindness,” with singer Kylie Minogue posting: “Sincere condolences (heart emoji) A true visionary. Thank you for your art Manfred.”
A message was also published on the official Instagram account of the fashion house Mugler: “It is with deep sadness that the Maison Mugler announces the death of Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler.
“A visionary whose imagination as a designer, perfumer and image maker has empowered people around the world to be bolder and dream bigger every day.”
Last year, hip-hop star Cardi B attended the opening of the exhibition Thierry Mugler: Couturissime at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the French capital.
She wore a piece from the French fashion designer’s 1995 couture collection, a dramatic red sequin dress, a cape and a ring of crimson feathers framing her face.
A second snap showed her without the cape and featured a pair of matching elbow-length red gloves.
Her designs have also appeared in films, including a black dress worn by actress Demi Moore in Indecent Proposal in 1993.
During a 2019 interview, conducted by American actress and model Tippi Hedren for Interview Magazine, he said, “I never say I’m a fashion designer.
“I always felt like a director, and the clothes I made were an everyday direction.
“There are women with a small waist and big shoulders, so it’s not really too much for me.
“Shoulders have always been important.
“In dance, I learned the position of the neck and the way you have to stand.”
