Beyoncé and her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, are set to join forces as voice actors in the upcoming prequel “Mufasa: The Lion King.”

Disney confirmed the casting with the release of the film’s first trailer on Monday, April 29 (EST). Beyoncé will reprise her role as Queen Nala, while Blue Ivy will play the role of Kiara, the daughter of King Simba (Donald Glover). and Queen Nala, to mark her film debut.

The character of Kiara last appeared in the 1998 animated film “The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride.” “Mufasa” is a prequel to the 2019 live-action film “The Lion King,” and it will be told through flashbacks as they take viewers back to the origin story of the lion king while Rafiki ( John Kani) tells the story to Kiara. from his grandfather Mufasa (Aaron Pierre).

In an interview with People Magazinedirector Barry Jenkins said the casting of Beyoncé and her eldest daughter “will be impactful for both actors.”

“I thought there was something really nice about seeing this mother and daughter playing together and working together,” he said.

“Both of them together, the few scenes they have. You will simply see; I think it’s going to have a really big impact for both of them,” the Hollywood director added.

Jenkins pointed out that filming for “Mufasa” took place well before the release of Beyoncé’s new album, “Renaissance,” and her current tour, making the project a “time capsule” for the mother-daughter.

“We started making this film in 2020 or 2021,” he said. “I feel like Blue has grown a lot on this tour. The film is a bit like this snapshot, this time capsule of a moment in their lives that I find really magnificent. And it absolutely worked for the film.

Blue Ivy made her stage debut as a featured dancer, joining her mother on her ninth world concert tour, “Renaissance.”

“Mufasa: The Lion King” will be released in theaters on December 20, 2024.
