The game: 2001 NBA Finals, Game 1
The situation of the series: Philadelphia 76ers vs. defending champion Los Angeles Lakers
The game: Allen Iverson used his trademark cross dribble against Los Angeles Lakers goaltender Tyronn Lue, then backed up and hit a fade jumper as Lue fell. Iverson then took an exaggerated step on Lue as he walked up the field.
Tit Meaning: This play was one of the greatest anointing of Iverson’s place of all time, and as much on the player as on the play. Iverson had just finished his only MVP season, averaging 31.1 points per game leading the league. Iverson then took the Sixers to the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly two decades, and to many Iverson fans it looked like there were more appearances to come. Iverson finished the game with 48 points as the Sixers won in overtime, 107-101. The Lakers went on to win four straight games to win the title, and Iverson never returned to the NBA Finals.
