Ben affleck is in the middle of a new breakup with his latest girlfriend Ana de Armas. Instead of discussing the split, however, the actor recently opened up about one of his most famous – and high-profile – relationships in the early 2000s.
From 2002 to 2004, Ben Affleck and Jennifer lopez were Hollywood’s favorite couple. And that attention hasn’t always been positive, according to the actor. In a recent podcast interview, the actor called out the tabloids of the day who wrote about their relationship, calling their writing “ugly” and “vicious.”

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, or “Bennifer,” were a huge source of celebrity gossip when they were together, but the tabloids have gone too far in criticizing the couple, especially JLo.
“People were so mean about her – sexist, racist. Ugly, vicious – was written all over her in such a way that if you wrote it now you would literally be fired for saying those things you said,” Affleck explained during the Chatter Awards podcast interview.

Of course, Lopez is now idolized. (And if you need to remember why, feel free to review her Super Bowl performance!) However, the writers weren’t always ready to compliment her.
Affleck explained, “Now it’s like, she’s admired and respected for the work she’s done, where she’s from, what she’s accomplished – well she should be! I would say that you have a better chance, coming from the Bronx, of ending up like [Justice Sonia] Sotomayor to the Supreme Court that you have the career of Jennifer Lopez and be who she is at 50 today. “

The actor also spoke about how people continue to criticize actors when they see paparazzi photos of them.
“You know, there’s always a story of the month, and me dating Jennifer Lopez just happens to be that tabloid story when this business has grown exponentially. Yet to this day, [some] will go, “I see you there in the paparazzi and the photos!” It’s like, ‘Yeah, I left my house and took out the trash. It’s not like I’m trying to – ‘And it’s always like,’ You were taking a walk! ‘”He said.” As if, if you leave your house, you only do so in the hope that you can be so lucky that you could become the sixth element of Daily mail. It’s absurd!”

Jennifer Lopez also opened up about the attention to their relationship.
“It was actually worse then,” JLo told InStyle, comparing “Bennifer” to his current relationship with Alex rodriguez.
“It was just crazy. Now at least I can show you a bit of who I am. Back then you just believed everything you read on the cover of a tabloid. A lot of times it wasn’t true, or it was like a third of the truth, ”she added.
