Beavers Warith Alatishe Says NBA Draft Originally Appeared On NBC Sports Northwest
Oregon State Beavers owner Warith Alatishe plans to submit his name for early entry into the 2021 NBA Draft.
But according to NBA Draft analyst Jonathan Givony, he is expected to return to school and play for the Beavers next season.
Alatishe, a 6-foot-7 junior forward, was one of three players to start all 33 Beavers games last season.
Beavers head coach Wayne Tinkle explained on Wednesday how Alatishe was going through the early registration process to get feedback on his skills and where he would land.
He hopes that in a year, he will have this experience, so why not have a little dress rehearsal. He is obviously fully determined to return. He knows he needs to make progress, but it will be a good deal for him. It will get more feedback to feed off what we tell it to work on.
This season, Alatishe has led the Beavers in rebounds and blocked shots. He had nine doubles-doubles with season-highs against UCLA with 22 points and 16 rebounds against Oregon.
In the Pac-12 tournament, Alatishe was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Alatishe is expected to return, but if NBA scouts give him a good report, he could make it to the NBA Draft.
