Bear captured after sighting leads to Magic Kingdom closure
A bear was captured Monday after a sighting led to the closure of an attraction at the Magic Kingdom. Officials say the bear was seen in a tree. Representatives from Florida Fish and Wildlife are working to capture and relocate the bear. The “My Disney Experience” app indicated that several attractions were closed. “In most cases, it is best if bears have space and can move around on their own, but given this situation, staff are working to capture and relocate the bear,” FWC says. “During the fall, bears are more active as they search for food to build up fat reserves for the winter. This particular bear was likely moving around the area in search of food.” Below: Exclusive footage from WESH 2 shows the bear being taken away. The list of closed attractions included: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Country Bear Jamboree, Hall of Presidents, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Pirate’s Adventure, Pirates of the Caribbean, Swiss Family Treehouse, Tom Sawyer Island, Walt Disney World Railroad (Fantasyland and Main Street.) Shortly before 1 p.m., Disney decided to reopen Frontierland, Liberty Square and Adventureland. Around 1:15 p.m., those involved in the search efforts were seen carrying a large black figure in a white tarp. The video can be viewed in the player above. According to wildlife officials, FWC law enforcement officers safely captured the adult bear and will move it out of the park to an area in or around the Ocala National Forest. :Listen to news and weather with the WESH 2 podcast.
