There was a lot to discuss in this episode besides breaking down Bayern’s road win at Wolfsburg.
Bayern Munich’s 4-2 win at VfL Wolfsburg was no shortage of talking points, as it was an encounter that was pretty much everything; goals, yellow cards, a red card, many chances for both teams, penalties claimed, a dazzling temper from Maxence Lacroix after being substituted at the half hour mark, and more. A semi-involuntary brace from Kingsley Coman, a header from Thomas Muller and a sublime solo effort from Jamal Musiala completed the three points for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, seeing only goals from substitute Jakub Kaminski and a second-half strike by Mattias Svanberg were only consolations. , although they put Bayern on their heels after Joshua Kimmich was sent off in the 54th minute.
The victory was Bayern’s first in the Bundesliga of 2023, ending a run of three consecutive draws to start the calendar year against RB Leipzig, FC Cologne and Eintracht Frankfurt, but earlier in the week they had beaten Mainz 4-0 in the DFB-Pokal when Nagelsmann used a three-man defensive system. He reverted to a four-man defender for Wolfsburg, but Yann Sommer was unable to secure his first league clean sheet with Bayern since joining from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
While there were plenty of positives to take away from Wolfsburg’s victory, there is still plenty to improve ahead of the Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Paris Saint-Germain in two weeks. They could still be without Kylian Mbappe for the first leg of the encounter, but they still possess one of the best attacks in all of Europe, and Bayern’s current defensive record doesn’t bode well for that in terms of staying. of PSG out of the back of the net.
Not to mention, with Toni Tapalovic’s sacking and Manuel Neuer’s interview in quick succession, hot on the heels of Serge Gnabry spending a weekend at Paris fashion week, there have been plenty of off-court distractions for FC Hollywood.
