Samsung might have another battery issue on its hands

We may not think much about smartphone batteries, but there’s a lot going on inside. As phones age, it becomes important to take care of the batteries inside to make sure they don’t swell. It was a common occurrence when smartphones first became popular – their batteries expanded as they aged, causing the back glass to shatter. Over time and technological advancements, manufacturers have learned to master this problem. But it seems Samsung has a problem with the batteries in its older phones swelling at a disproportionate rate.

ANDROIDPOLICE VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a video, YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss (aka Arun Maini) details noticing swollen batteries on several Samsung smartphones in his storage. This includes the Galaxy S6 from 2015 and the Galaxy S10 from 2019. Initially, he blamed the UK heatwave for the swollen batteries, which could have caused the ambient temperature to change drastically. But then the YouTuber noticed that the batteries of all older iPhones, Pixels, and Asus phones stored under the same conditions worked well despite their age.

When Arun first tweeted about the issue, Samsung quickly contacted him and got the devices back. Two months have passed since then, but the Korean giant has never reconsidered its conclusions.

What is more worrying is that he is not the only one to have faced this problem. Matt Ansini, host of YouTube channel This Is, contacted Arun and confirmed that the batteries of all Samsung phones in their storage were thrown before the Galaxy S20 skyrocketed. None of the phones from other brands, which were stored in the same place, had a similar problem. And since the video was uploaded, several reviewers and YouTubers have confirmed that the batteries of many older Samsung phones they had with them had swollen.

Apparently the problem only occurs with devices that have not been used for a long time. It does not affect older devices that are regularly used. Samsung has yet to release an official statement on this.

The situation is not as bad as the batteries exploding inside the Galaxy Note 7 saga for Samsung. But there seems to be a problem with the batteries inside his phones causing them to swell when stored for an extended period of time.
