Bath City’s Alex Fletcher in ‘stable but critical condition’ after ‘serious head injury’ following collision with hoarding which saw National League game abandoned


Bath City’s Alex Fletcher remains in a ‘stable but critical condition’ after sustaining a head injury in a collision with a billboard.

A National League South game between Bath and Dulwich Hamlet at Twerton Park was abandoned after five minutes when striker Fletcher collided with a backboard.

Fletcher is a star in Bath and everyone wishes him well

He was quickly taken to hospital by ambulance and underwent emergency surgery following the disturbing scenes.

On Wednesday morning, Fletcher’s parents released the following statement via the club.

It read: “Unfortunately Alex suffered a serious head injury as a result of the events of last night.

“He required emergency neurosurgery to stabilize his condition and was later admitted to intensive care where he remains in stable but critical condition.

“Alex’s family would like to thank everyone for the well wishes that have been sent.”

The club added: “No further comment will be made at this stage and we ask that you all respect the privacy of the family.


“Everyone at Bath City sends their unconditional love, strength and support to Alex and those close to him.”

The score was 0-0 when the incident happened and after 25 minutes it was decided that the match would be abandoned due to the severity of the injury.
