The UW-Whitewater men’s basketball team will wear new uniforms this season. Head coach Pat Miller and the players were able to create a new set of uniforms for the 2022-23 season through a rotation that allows the team to get new uniforms every three to four years.
Some changes have been made to the previous ones. There will now be a Nike logo on the upper chest as opposed to the Jumpman logo. Additionally, the color scheme has been changed slightly using gray veins as opposed to black. A rollback was also introduced.
Unknown to many, the colors of UW-Whitewater were once purple and yellow gold. The team plans to bring back that same yellow gold this season. The colors will serve as retro decor throughout the season, especially during the Alumni game.
The biggest difference might not be so noticeable with the naked eye. This year’s uniforms are made from a different material. The type of jerseys that will be featured are sublimated jerseys, similar to Nike dri-fit material. This allows for a softer feel against the skin, better airflow and lighter overall weight.
One of the things that sets Miller apart from many college basketball coaches is that he makes sure to get input from his players in the process of ordering new uniforms. They had a say in everything; the material, the fonts, the colors, the logos, all of it.
“It’s me, our players, actually Derek Gray has been pretty active in this process. We’ve been going back and forth a lot with different designs and different fonts and everything,” Miller said. with our staff, and obviously we get feedback from our players because we want to get things they like.”
Another thing to watch during the season will be how the team honors Derek Gray, a crew chief who died over the summer. Whether it’s through a patch, armband, or something like that, the team will carry on their legacy for years to come.
“Yes, I anticipate we will. We haven’t specifically decided what we’re going to do. We are looking at different options, but we will definitely do something,” Miller said.
The team will certainly look great. After all, you look good, you feel good, you play good. At least that’s what Miller was taught when he was playing in high school. Looking good in uniform is part of the game, but it doesn’t happen in the blink of an eye.
Miller has the help of a longtime sales representative. from the nation’s largest sportswear and equipment distributor, BSN Sports. Steve Landish has worked with Miller for many years, and it makes the process incredibly easy for the team and himself.
“Working with Coach Miller is very easy, he kind of leaves it up to me. I know he’s a busy guy, and he knows I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’m certainly very familiar with Nike products. Landish said. So it’s pretty simple, pretty easy to work with him. He and I have a great relationship, so it was nice working with him.
All of these moving parts worked together over the previous spring and summer to help move the process forward to release these new uniform sets.
Get ready to see the Warhawks in new threads this year. They will certainly look good, and we’ll see if that translates to the game on the pitch.
