For the second year in a row, Parkway senior Mikaylah Williams has been named the FIBA 3×3 U18 Women’s World Cub MVP.
Williams led the United States to its sixth straight championship. She scored nine points in a 21-11 win over Germany in Sunday’s title match in Debrecen, Hungary.
It was Williams’ third trip to Hungary. She helped USA win the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup (5×5) in July.
The 2022 Women’s 3×3 World Cup kicked off on August 23.
The United States went 7-0, winning four pool matches and three group matches.
Williams was the tournament’s leading scorer with 59 points. Alicia Florez of Spain was the second highest scorer with 50.
In 3×3 basketball, a basket inside the arc is a point, as is a free throw. A field outside the arc is two points
Williams led the United States in points in five games and tied for the highest single-game honors.
In the pool they scored eight goals in a 16-8 win over Egypt, nine in a 21-10 win over Mongolia, 10 against in a 21-12 win over Ukraine and 10 in a 21-4 win over Kyrgyzstan.
She picked up six points in a 21-15 quarter-final win over the Netherlands and seven in a 31-13 semi-final win over Spain.
Williams led Parkway to the Class 5A state championship game last season. The Lady Panthers finished 33-3 with one of the forfeit losses.
She was named All-State Class 5A Team Outstanding Player and Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year.
She was also one of five finalists for Mike’s Naismith Jersey Player of the Year, a national award.
Williams committed to LSU earlier this summer.
