ELMIRA, NY (WETM) – Some basketball courts across the Twin Tiers are back and ready to go, but not all courts are ready to go, making people frustrated. Earlier today in Grove Park the view was empty basketball courts with no hoops in sight. But the back panels? Freshly painted. With the good weather people are ready to go out and some have resorted to baseball. A local resident approached me while 18 News was there and shared her frustrations with me.
“We are very disappointed in this community without the hoops. We all really want them to come back. We miss the Grove Park basketball hoops. Locals use it for their entertainment and the kids love to play basketball here. I love to watch, ”said Angela Long, a resident of Elmira.
“It inspires me to go out and play with other kids and play basketball with them,” said her son Jace.
18 News spoke with Councilor Nick Grasso today who said if New York State did not change its regulations it would not be able to open the next seven parks this year again due to the a workforce that keeps parks clean; Blanford, Brand, Ernie Davis, Cypress, Grove, Hathorn and McKinnon.
Some just outside of Elmira are already open and ready to use, so do your research and find out where you can play in good weather!
