Nearly a dozen people were injured after a balcony collapsed during a social gathering at a Malibu home, sending them to rocks below on Saturday night, firefighters said.
Shortly after 5 p.m., firefighters responded to the call from a collapsing balcony at a beach house along the Pacific Coast Highway, about a mile south of Las Flores Canyon Road.
About 10 to 15 people were on a balcony during what has been described as a large social gathering when it collapsed, sending a group of people falling onto jagged boulders and large boulders, said Ron Haralson, manager. of LA County Fire Department Public Information.
The drop was about 10 to 15 feet according to Haralson. About nine people were injured and four of them were taken to local hospitals.
The 5 other people who fell were assessed on site by medical staff and refused transport. None of the patients suffered serious injuries.
The homeowner said she was renting out her residence to a group of four who said they were from Colorado, and told them they weren’t allowed to throw parties.
After neighbors complained about the noise, the landlord checked her security cameras and saw dozens of people inside her home.
Sheriffs helped shut down PCH to ensure resources could reach the residence, Haralson said.
