‘I still have chills’: Awkwafina proudly reflects on her Golden Globes story, admits she owes her success to actress Lucy Liu in new interview with Vogue Australia
She became the first Asian American to win the coveted Best Actress award at the Golden Globes earlier this year.
And in a new cover interview with Vogue Australia, Awkwafina, 32, admitted she “ always gets chills ” when she looks back on the historic moment.
The star, born to a Korean mother and Chinese father, also credited her career success to actress Lucy Liu, 52, who has broken boundaries for young girls like her.

Awkwafina, real name Nora Lum, told the Fashion Bible: “ When you are young and you turn on the TV and you don’t see kids who look like you, then by default you take the perspective of a foreigner. ”
‘Without [representation], you are literally sitting there playing imaginary friends. It’s different just being the Asian singer, in a girl group, without development, without substance.
Speaking more about the importance of Charlie’s Angels star Lucy, Awkwafina added, “ You want to be able to tell these stories and tell them in an authentic way. It is the representation.

After hitting the big moment in the 2018 critically acclaimed comedic romance Crazy Rich Asian, Awkwafina grabbed viewers’ attention in The Farewell.
Her main role in the film brought her great success, and she won the Best Actress award at the Golden Globe – the first person of Asian descent to do so.
Speaking of the career defining moment, the multi-talented star said: “ Can’t believe it was this year. When I think about it, even now, I still have chills.

Star on the Rise: After hitting the big moment in 2018’s critically acclaimed comedic romance Crazy Rich Asian, Awkwafina shot viewers’ hearts in The Farewell, which won its season-long accolades awards.
Awkwafina was in Australia from July to October filming for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Western Sydney.
Marvel’s first Asian superhero film will also star Michelle Yeoh, Simu Liu, Tony Leung and Rosalind Chao.
The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on February 12, 2021, the first day of the Chinese New Year, but has since been pushed back to July 9, 2021.
