Lionel Messi once again proved on Saturday night why he is one of the greatest to ever grace the game.
The soccer icon was instrumental in Argentina’s World Cup victory over Australia, so much so that some Down Under just couldn’t seem to get enough of him afterwards.
After the full-time whistle, members of the Australian team took the opportunity to have a photo with the South American superstar.
In a video on twitterwinger Marco Tilio and left-back Joel King went to where the media were positioned inside the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium awaiting Messi’s arrival.
King was the first to snap a photo with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Tilio then jumped at the chance soon after.
Hearts midfielder Cameron Devlin in particular will be more than happy as he was able to swap shirts with the legend.
Keanu Baccus also got his picture taken, before Messi left to join his fellow Argentine stars after their crucial win in Qatar.
For the Aussies, it was certainly an opportunity they couldn’t miss despite the defeat, with Graham Arnold’s side now preparing to return home following their elimination from the tournament.
Messi’s arrival was his first goal in the Round of 16 of the World Cup and third overall in this year’s competition, with Julian Alvarez scored the second in their 2-1 victory.
The 35-year-old was also playing the 1000th game of his career, with his quality certainly showing no signs of stopping.
He was also the worthy recipient of the Man of the Match award, his second accolade at this year’s World Cup.
Argentina will now face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals next week and if Messi is able to continue his form then they will certainly be on course to reach the final.
