Audi S3 takes on Mercedes-AMG CLA 35, Mini Clubman JCW in drag race

The Mini Clubman John Cooper Works is a surprising tailgate with serious performance hidden in its hood. The second generation model, model code F54, was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and is based on the BMW UKL2 platform. It was the largest Mini when it launched – until the Countryman expanded into its second generation model.

Although the Clubman does not seem conventional, it is suitable as a daily driver, and therefore like the Audi S3 and the AMG CLA 35 Coupé. CarWow pit the three in a drag race to see which daily driver is the fastest in a straight line.

Before watching the video embedded at the top of this page, let’s first compare the numbers here to see how these cars match in black and white.

The JCW Mini Clubman is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine developing 302 horsepower (225 kilowatts) and 332 pound-feet (450 Newton meters) of torque. It weighs 2,690 pounds (1,220 kilograms).

The Mercedes-AMG CLA 35, on the other hand, has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in-line engine that also produces 225 kW (302 hp). However, it only produces 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque and is slightly heavier than the Clubman JCW at around 800 lb (363 kg).

Last but not least, the Audi S3 is the underdog of this group. Powered by a 2.0 L TFSI inline four cylinder, the S3 only produces 296 hp (221 kW) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torsion. It is in the middle of the weight, tipping the scale at 1441 kg (3241 lb).

So which one do you think won the standing drag race? Let us know if you guessed it right in the comments section below.
