Atari reborn Missile control with a new game that the company calls “a modern take” on the classic arcade for mobile devices. The launch of the game, called Missile control: reloaded, coincides with the 40th anniversary of the 1980 original.
Missile control: reloaded maintains the same perspective of the original game, in which the missile silos fight incoming rockets to protect civil structures. Recharged uses a neon-colored visual design, a classic arcade game reinvents it as Pac Man Championship Edition and Space Invaders Extreme. The gameplay has been remixed, with power-ups, an upgrade system and an augmented reality mode which projects the gameplay on a “virtual arcade cabinet”.
Here is an overview of Missile control: reloaded in action:
Missile control: reloaded should be released in the spring for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) and Android. Atari says Missile control: reloaded will be downloadable for free with ads, and players can make a one-time purchase to play the game unobstructed and ad-free.
It will be a busy year for Atari, which also plans to launch a new console, the crowdfunded Atari VCS, and to launch a new range of Atari-themed hotels in 2020.
