Aston Villa have announced the surprise signing of Danny Ings from Southampton for an estimated £ 30million.
In one of the least anticipated moves of the summer, the England striker signs a three-year contract as Villa continues their impressive recruiting campaign.
Head coach Dean Smith said: “Danny is an exceptional Premier League footballer who has scored goals everywhere he has played.
“He is also a top professional with a great character who will be a leader in our squad and a role model for our young, rapidly developing Academy players who are now in and around the first team. ‘welcome Danny to our big Club.
The move comes as Villa captain Jack Grealish draws closer to a £ 100million move to Manchester City, with a medical checkup scheduled for tomorrow.
Villa wasted no time spending that money – and Ings joins Emi Buendia and Leon Bailey as the club’s latest big signing in attack.
Ings, 29, are rumored to be leaving the Saints this summer with just a year on the contract – but Villa was not mentioned as a potential destination.
The new surprise will also be welcomed by Liverpool, who are expected to receive £ 6million as part of their sale deal with Southampton for their former striker.
