Description:

The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach must assist the Head Coach in all program operations, including the recruitment, retention and coaching of basketball team members. The Assistant Coach is responsible for day-to-day coaching responsibilities and must achieve recruiting and retention goals. This position will also assist the Head Coach with travel coordination, game day personnel management, equipment management, camps and fundraising. This benefits eligible position will operate for 10 months with a two month break during the season.

  • Recruit, retain and graduate successful student-athletes
  • Assist in executing recruiting strategies to achieve recruitment and retention goals set by the College.
  • Collaborate with the head coach to ensure that the academic performance and personal development of student-athletes is consistent with institutional and program goals.
  • Assist the head coach in all operations necessary to run a successful basketball program
  • Demonstrate a high level of intercultural competence and the ability to work with a diverse population
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism on and off the field – toward student-athletes, other coaches, parents, administrators and community members.
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations of Illinois College, Midwest Conference and NCAA.
  • Attend regular athletics and admissions staff meetings
  • Assumes additional administrative responsibilities within the Athletic Department as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Essential functions:

  • Bachelor’s degree, required
  • Intercultural competence; ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Able to develop and maintain collaborative relationships, engage in creative problem solving, and provide insightful hospitality when working with others.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability, required
  • Relevant coaching experience at the NCAA, Division III level preferred
  • Experience in recruiting at the collegiate level, Division III, an asset
  • Must understand and value the liberal arts experience for Illinois College students, including participation in other sports, clubs and organizations, and have academic experience
  • Certification in first aid and DEA, preferred
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends and some evenings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Have a results-oriented approach to coaching
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
