The 30-year-old looked destined to end his wait for glory when he swapped his boyhood club Tottenham for Bundesliga giants Bayern.

However, despite an excellent individual campaign with 39 goals in all competitions, Thomas Tuchel’s men are on the verge of being trophyless this season.

Bayer Leverkusen ended the club’s run of 11 consecutive titles in Germany on Sunday, with the Champions League being Bayern’s last chance for glory.

Kane told a press conference: “Of course every player, every club wants to win trophies, that’s the ultimate goal of every season, but there is a process to win, there is a process individually and in the team.

“You want to improve as a player every year, you want to show the world your abilities and you want to push your limits and you hope that helps the team.

“Of course, from a club point of view it will be a failed season if we don’t win anything this year because we are supposed to win, but all we can do is take this again next year and try to Turn the situation around.

“The main thing for us is that we still have the opportunity to make this a great season if we win the Champions League. That motivation is still there and as players you can only hold on to it. If we can do something special tomorrow night so of course it keeps that hope alive.

“It’s time to raise our game, it’s time for me and the players who have been in big situations, pressure situations, to step up and be taken into account. That It’s going to be an incredible atmosphere. There are a lot of expectations but I think there’s a good belief within the team that we can achieve something tomorrow.”

The prospect of another trophyless season has forced Kane to hit back at claims he regrets his decision to leave the Premier League.

The striker has now found an ally in Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou, who has defended his move to Germany.

Postecoglou worked with Kane during Spurs’ pre-season last summer before the latter joined Bayern and believes it would be unfair for Kane’s switch to be seen as a failure if Arsenal won this week.

“I don’t think it’s fair,” the Australian said.

“I’m not going to speak for Harry, for God’s sake, but I don’t think that’s the only reason he left. I think he’s made it pretty clear that he wanted a different experience and I think there’s nothing wrong with that.

“It’s been my whole career. He’s been at one club for a very long time. He was at a point where he either makes the decision to stay and become a one club man, which is fair enough, or he can experience something different as a footballer, perhaps as a person.

“I don’t know. These are questions for him. But I don’t understand that he just moved just to win things.

“I don’t think if he had stayed here he didn’t think he was going to win things. I just think he wanted a different experience and he’s getting it.

“I’m sure at the end of his career, if that was his reasoning, he will find that to be the case. It gives you a very broad experience of what football is, of what life is .

“I know that every decision I’ve made in my career is sometimes very difficult for other people to understand because they don’t live my life.

Former NFL star JJ Watt explains how Harry Kane could make a unique change from football and become an NFL kicker

“They are not with my family or with the people around me to know why you make these decisions.

“They’re very rarely (created) around too many simplistic things. Most of the time you bring a whole bunch of factors into it.”
