Pablo Mari has returned to training with Italian side Monza after being stabbed earlier this year.

The Arsenal defender suffered a violent random attack in October, injuring five at a Carrefour supermarket on the outskirts of Milan and killing one.

Confirming what happened back then, the star on loan at Monza told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Today I was lucky because I saw a person die in front of me.

“I was with the trolley with my child inside and I felt excruciating pain in my back.

“Then this man stabbed another in the throat.”

Mari was forced to undergo surgery the following day to close the wounds and was to be ruled out for about four months.

But having recovered from the physical and mental impact of the incident, the centre-back has now returned to training with the Serie A side.

Mari is currently on a season-long loan deal with Monza after falling down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.

With the Italian side holding an option to make the deal permanent, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal fans will see the 29-year-old in action again.

However, given the events of the past few months, fans will no doubt be delighted to see him return to doing what he loves most on the football pitch.
