To say it’s been an eventful year for Ariana Grande would be an understatement. She released her album Positionsstarted his new job as a judge on The voice, and, oh yeah, she also got married. The superstar has made the most of her 2021, delivering some stellar fashion moments along the way. vogue looks back at some of her best outfits of the year, all 19, to be exact.
In September, the singer began her tenure as a judge on The voice. Even when her outfits were covered up at the singing competition — while sitting in those famous swinging chairs, of course — the singer always brought her fashion A game. In looks styled by Mimi Cuttrell, Grande has always offered a fresh take on evening wear via youthful silhouettes (think cropped hemlines, but super high platforms).
Last month, she wore a strapless dress with a shell-shaped bra from GCDS. Earlier this year, she wore a metallic blue evening dress with puff shoulders and a cut-out waist by London-based brand Miss Sohee. But perhaps her most viral success was when she wore Versace’s 2000s dress from 13 Ongoing 30.
Outside of the show, Grande delivered many classy moments for her stage performances. For the 2021 iHeart Radio Music Awards, she wore a silky Rat & Boa wrap top with a matching skirt and diamond necklaces to perform with The Weeknd. For his Vevo live performance of Positions, she belted it out in sleek leather pants, a bra top, and opera gloves (what a combination!). Grande has really honed her aesthetic this year, finding ensembles that are the perfect mix of fun, topicality, and timelessness.
Her best look of the year, however, wasn’t on TV or on stage – it was what she wore as she married husband Dalton Gomez at his California home in May. For her special day, Grande enlisted Vera Wang to create her wedding dress: an empire-waist column dress in custom lily white silk charmeuse. The sleek look was complete with a plunging back and a hand-pleated bubble veil. It was a fresh take on the classic bridal style and 100% Ariana. The bride didn’t say yes; she said, “Yeah!”
