Since 1995 Toy story, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have lent their voices to Pixar’s most beloved characters, Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The film series has been such a big part of the actors’ lives that they even admitted to tearing themselves apart while recording their lines for Toy story 4. But does Hanks and Allen’s actual relationship reflect the on-screen friendship?
‘Toy Story’ brought Tom Hanks and Tim Allen together for the very first time
When Toy story Released in theaters in the fall of 1995, Hanks and Allen were in very different places in their careers. Hanks had just scored his second consecutive Oscar win – for Forrest Gump – and just played in Apollo 13. And Allen was the star of the hit ABC sitcom. As the first computer-animated feature film, Toy story was always going to be a pioneer of cinema. Are the two stars best friends like their characters from “Toy Story”?
Almost 25 years later, Hanks and Allen returned as Buzz and Woody for Toy story 4. But over the years, have the two actors made friends? In an interview with CinemaBlend in 2019, Hanks explained that he and Allen have indeed remained friends. However, he attributes their decades-long friendship to the common ground they share. “We actually got really close just because of Woody and Buzz’s union. After doing the second, we started having regular breakfasts or so every three months or so that he and I sit in. And alcohol is not involved. It’s just that we sit and talk for about three and a half hours straight every time we get together and seek each other out to tackle every aspect of our life. Certainly professionally. … But it wouldn’t have come out if it hadn’t been for Buzz and me as Woody.
While calling Hanks and Allen “best friends” might be an exaggeration, it seems the two recognize how vital their relationship has been. Certainly, Woody and Buzz are arguably the most iconic roles the two have played. So Toy story fans might take comfort in the fact that Hanks and Allen stay in close contact even when they’re not working hard on one another Toy story project.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reunite for “Toy Story 5”?
During their recording sessions for Toy story 4, Hanks and Allen may have gotten a little emotional. And the film stands as perhaps the last chapter in the series. Then again, fans thought about the conclusion of Toy story 3 served as the perfect finale to the trilogy. Could then Toy story 5 is it really happening at some point?
Hanks, for his part, is not opposed to the idea. Although he admits that nothing is currently happening, the actor has said he would be ready to reunite with Allen for another film. Given the long gaps between Toy story movies, it’s a good thing Hanks didn’t rely on the franchise to keep his friendship with Allen alive.
