Apple TV+ Releases Acapulco Season 2 Trailer (TV News Roundup) – Variety

Apple TV+ has released the trailer for Season 2 of the bilingual comedy “Acapulco,” which will release its first two episodes on October 21.

Starring Eugenio Derbez, the series follows 20-year-old Máximo Gallardo (Enrique Arrizon) who earns his dream job as a shack boy in Acapulco’s hottest resort, Las Colinas.

Besides Derbez and Arrizon, returning stars include Fernando Carsa, Dambián Alcázar, Camila Perez, Chord Overstreet, Vanessa Bauche, Regina Reynoso, Raphael Alejandro, Jessica Collins, Rafael Cebrián and Carlos Corona.

“Acapulco” is produced for Apple by Lionsgate Television, 3Pas Studios, Zihuatanejo Productions and The Tannenbaum Company. The series is produced by creators Austin Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman, with showrunner Chris Harris. Jay Karas is executive producer and director. In addition to starring on the series, Derbez executive produces alongside Ben Odell and co-executive producer Sonia Gambaro on behalf of 3Pas Studios. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum and Jason Wang of The Tannenbaum Company are also executive producers.

PRESTIGIOUS GUESTS

Netflix has revealed the addition of several guest stars who will make guest appearances in “Obliterated,” an all-new action-comedy series written and produced by “Cobra Kai” creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald.

Viewers can expect to see actors Virginia Madsen, Lori Petty, Keston John, Clive Standen and Ivan G’vera throughout the eight-episode season alongside the series’ recurring stars – Carl Lumbly, David Costabile, Costa Ronin, Lindsey Kraft, Tobias Jelinek and Minnie Moulins.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the show follows a special forces team who must defuse a bomb and save the world, while very drunk in the city of Las Vegas. An official release date has yet to be announced.

APPOINTMENT

Season 6 of “Rick and Morty” will go on hiatus following the release of Episode 6 and is scheduled to return to Adult Swim on November 20.

The adult animated sci-fi series kicked off its sixth season with a major reveal about the portal duo after Rick, Morty and Jerry are sent back to their home worlds/realities. Episode 6, titled “JuRicksic Mort,” will air on October 9.

Bela Bajaria, head of global television for Netflix and former chair of the board of directors of HRTS, will be honored at the Hollywood Radio and Television Society’s 75th Anniversary Gala, to be held Dec. 7 at the Beverly Hilton.

Bajaria was featured in Variety 2021 LA Women’s Impact Report. In her role at Netflix, Bajaria oversees scripted and unscripted series in English and local language worldwide. She also leads the team for all television, managing series such as ‘Bridgerton’, ‘Squid Game’, ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ and ‘Cobra Kai’.

PARTNERSHIPS

Viz Media is partnering with Disney+ and Hulu as the official streaming platforms for the upcoming anime series “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” following the acquisition of worldwide rights to Tite Kubo’s best-selling manga series.

The pilot will premiere October 10 at 8:30 a.m. PT, when it will be available on Disney+ internationally and on Hulu in the United States. The upcoming anime series is based on the final arc of the original manga.

The acquisition of Viz Media excludes Asia and Arabic-speaking parts of Africa and the Middle East. But the rights encompass all projects derived from the work for video on demand, home video, e-commerce, television and merchandise.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” executive producer and World of Wonder co-founder Fenton Bailey will release his new non-fiction book “ScreenAge: How TV Shaped Our Reality From Tammy Faye to RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

The book provides a behind-the-scenes look at various historical series, featuring industry insider accounts and celebrity stories about the impact of television.

“ScreenAge” should be released in the spring.
