A few weeks ago, BGR covered that Apple TV Plus has started offering the hunger games saga free to subscribers in the United States. Now Apple is increasing the number of licensed movies that aren’t owned by the company, making the service more similar to all of its competitors who distribute content that isn’t created by them either.
As noted Tech Radar, until November 30, Apple TV Plus will offer 20 films that Apple does not make. For example, when searching for Spirited, Mythic Quest, and Causeway, the service will suggest movies not made by Apple.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Silver Linings Playbookthe clerks of Kevin Smith and the Coen brothers The Hudsucker Proxy are among the movies available to watch for free for Apple TV Plus subscribers.
Tech Radar says these films are being offered to TV Plus subscribers in the US “in what appears to be an experimental initiative” as this is the first time Apple has licensed content that was not commissioned or produced by the Cupertino company.
It couldn’t come at a better time, as the company just hiked the prices of Apple TV Plus. Apple said the price change makes sense because it has a great content offering, but the lack of third-party studios is also a service flaw.
Before that of Jennifer Lawrence The hunger Games saga was available on the service, the company offered five classic Sidney Poitier films to celebrate a new documentary about him on the platform.
Whether Apple sticks with these movies longer or brings in more titles, its streaming service will be more appealing to current and new subscribers if the company gets more options — and in more countries.
