Sales of the iPhone 13 have started and millions of orders have been placed, but Apple fans must also be made aware of an astonishing late change Apple has made to pricing for the iPhone 13.

In a surprise move, Apple confirmed that the rear glass for the iPhone 13 lineup is now priced the same as repairing an iPhone screen and the move will save buyers hundreds of dollars. Moreover, owners of iPhone 12 models will also benefit.

Apple details the changes on its official iPhone repair and service page. The company explains that for AppleCare + subscribers, the damage to the screen and back glass of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series will now only cost $ 29 to repair. Previously, the rear window was classified in the “Other Damage” category with truly mind-blowing prices for anyone who had not signed up for the service:

  • iPhone 13 Pro Max – $ 599
  • iPhone 13 Pro – $ 549
  • iPhone 13 – $ 449
  • iPhone 13 mini – $ 399

Be forewarned, AppleCare + doesn’t come cheap. You’ll pay from $ 149 (or $ 7.99) for basic protection for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini and $ 219 (or $ 11.49) for theft and additional assistance. This drops to $ 199 (or $ 9.99) for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, and $ 269 ($ 13.49) for the additional flight and assistance. Yes, that’s a lot, but it’s now an essential upsell for all iPhone 13 buyers.

That said, there is also a more concerning aspect to this news. The iPhone 13 leaks suggest that Apple was looking for a more efficient way to replace the back glass on news phones in order to cut costs. AppleCare + pricing suggested Apple had found it, but the combination of nearly identical hardware and the company’s retroactive inclusion of last year’s models makes me question that. Moreover, this is a valid question to ask why iPhone 12 owners have faced such high fees so far.

Whether you choose to see this news as Apple making improvements for its customers or a historic operation will depend on your attitude towards the business in general. Meanwhile, Apple hasn’t offered the upgraded AppleCare + service to older iPhones – including the iPhone 11 and iPhone X lineup – which no doubt signals the company’s desire for those customers to buy. an iPhone 13.

That said, if you or someone you know owns an iPhone 12 or is considering buying an iPhone 13, they should be aware of these substantial service changes. Ultimately, it’s a hugely welcome upgrade that can help convince iPhone fans to part with their money. That’s unless they’ve seen the first images of the iPhone 14.
