Apple expands do-it-yourself repair for Mac and iPhone to Europe – Yahoo Finance

(Bloomberg) — Apple Inc. will begin allowing customers in eight European countries to repair their own devices, expanding a program that launched in the United States earlier this year.

The offer, known as Self Service Repair, will now allow users in France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Spain, the UK, Italy and Sweden to purchase parts online for iPhone SE, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and some laptops so they can do their own repairs. Under the program, announced Tuesday, a customer can rent a large repair toolkit for around €60 ($63), buy spare parts and receive how-to manuals from Apple.

Apple doesn’t recommend that most consumers repair their own devices, but right-to-repair groups have pushed the company for years to allow the practice. The program was first launched in the United States in April.

Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., has yet to expand its efforts to include the iPhone 14 or Macs with the new M2 chips.
